http://www.visit-ulcinj.com/The Montenegrin coast is 293 kilometers long and is home to some of the finest beaches on the Adriatic Sea. The beaches here are the major reason why Montenegro is expected to be the most rapidly growing resort destination worldwide, in coming years.
In addition to the beaches described below, there are many more small beaches, sea caves, and hidden valleys reachable only by boat or water taxi. It is possible to hire various watercraft or simply take a boat taxi and go on exotic shoreline crusing.
Velika Plaza — Also known as Long Beach (and Plazha Madhe in Albanian), is one of Montenegro’s great natural assets – it is the country’s longest contiguous beach and its most famous Adriatic beach. Some locals like to call this 13-kilometer stretch of Montenegro’s coast, the “Copacabana of Ulcinj”. The beach is well-know for being covered with the finest sand (the diameter of a grain is 0.1-5mm) with such a fine quality that it is reputed to have medicinal and therapeutic qualities.
Ada Bojana — At the edge of Montenegro’s South Coast is Ada Bojana, a popular destination with international travelers to Montenegro, and perhaps most telling, among Montenegrins as well. The area is known for its daily fresh fish catch served at Ada Bojana restaurants, the local nudist beaches, and for some of the most scenic portions of Velika Plaza, attracting throngs of beach-goers to this Adriatic destination on any given day.
Valdanos Bay Beach — a horse-shoe- shaped natural water body, is situated about four miles to the north of Ulcinj’s Old Town, between Mavrijen and Mendra. The bay’s end point falls steeply and suddenly into the sea. The beach at Valdanos is single, composed of round stones 1 to 20 cm in diameter.
Mala Plaza Ulcinj — Ulcinj’s Small Beach is the 360-meter city beach adjacent to Old Town Ulqin and Ulcinj’s city center area. The beach is considered highly suitable for children since the sand is fine and comforting, and the sea here has a shallow bottom which goes some distance into the sea.
Ladies Beach — So-called “Ladies Beach” is situated along Ulcinj’s coastal pine forest, just south of Hotel Mediteran Resort, part of a succession of small natural beaches and quiet covers that exist along this Adriatic coastline. The beach here is known for its therapeutic springs of sulphurous water that is said cure women’s infertility.
Many beaches on the Montenegrin South Coast are now in compliance with Blue Flag standards for safety and services, water quality and environmental management. The manegement of this exqusite corner of the Mediterranean is entrusted to a special company for maritime resources which ensures that this public wealth is open and avaibale to every guest.
