Am I being silly worrying about this?
Okay so I have met this guy, I like him and everything. Since I’ve had a baby, I have really bad luck with boys. I ended up having sex with him (Not the 1st time I met him by the way) and thought I’d never hear from him again. Anyway, I’ve seen him 3 times since and he is talking about a relationship. BUT and I know this sounds really childish but I feel like I’d be judged for being with him. He’s a little bit overweight and this doesn’t bother me as much as his dress sense does. Most young men in london dress really nicely, jeans, chinos, shirts, polo’s, boat shoes, vans, converse, trainers. But he wears tracksuit bottoms and random t-shirts with beat up looking trainers. Its not just that he doesn’t wear the top fashion as I don’t really follow fashion but its more the point that he doesn’t look very well kept and this bothers me. I understand this sounds pathetic and immature but the society we are in is so judgemental and I keep being told "do what makes you happy." "don’t worry about what other people think" but in honesty, I do. And I probably always will. :/ I’ve done it myself and I’m sure my friends will have something negative to say. I do really like him though, as a person. And as a mum, I am grown up enough to understand that this is soooo trivial when he’s so nice but I can’t help it! What do I do? Please, real advice!
Why would you care what other people think of him? It’s somewhat natural to seek approval but ultimately it all comes down to your own personal feelings. For example. I LOVE girls with wild hair colors, tons of piercings, and tattoos. My friends think i’m nuts and that anything beyond a nose or ear piercing is just weird. I still go for the girls with the piercings and tattoos. I’m nuts about them. I don’t care if my friends approve of the girls i get.
Just live for you. If you really like him, just go for it. If you don’t like that he looks unkempt talk to him about it. I can understand if he just looks…whats the word im looking for…bad. As in he always dresses like it’s a lazy day around the house. Track pants, gym shorts, sweat pants, etc.
In the end it’s all your opinion that matters. Forget what anyone else thinks. If they’re really talking about you then they’re in no position to talk. People who feel the need to bash on other people generally suffer from a lack of confidence. They’re not happy with who they are. Just be happy with who you are, and who he is and go for it. If you’re happy, you have something they don’t.
