How do i wear boat shoes?

July 14th, 2011 3 comments

Ok I’m a 16 year old male and I recently bought some new boat shoes to go with my chinos and the new style Im going for, the problem is, I cant understand how to wear them! I know you dont wear them with socks, its things like, what do you do with the ‘almost-laces’? And how much ankle do I show? 😉 And, wont my feet get blisters walking around with no socks? I would very much appreciate answers to these questions, plus any boat-shoe related advice 🙂

Thanks!

no socks lol accept sometimes in the winter i wear socks with mine cause it’s comfy 🙂

advice: on my Sperry’s the "laces" are like leather and are hard to tie the first couple of times until they break in a bit and then you can just leave it tied and slip the shoe on and off. hope this helped 🙂

Men’s Casual Boat Shoes

May 10th, 2011 No comments

Men’s boat shoes never seem to go out of fashion. They are cool and comfortable with a wide range of designs, starting from the conventional brown to tan, to the patterned combination of colors and the checkered variations. These shoes are apt for any season and are resistant to water as well as stains. These deck shoes were originally designed as shoes that stop you from slipping on watery boat decks hence, provide a lot of grip in wet and dry conditions.

According to history Paul Sperry, the founder of the Sperry Shoe Company, was hunting for a shoe that wouldn’t slip over a watery and painted wooden deck. After he found none, he set out to design his own. Looking at his cocker spaniel’s ability to run comfortably on ice, he decided to recreate the pattern on his paws on to a rubber sole. The result, of which was immensely popular boat shoes, preferred by people all over the world. Men’s boat shoes are a perfect buy because they can be used as both an active wear as well as a fashionable, casual footwear for parties or festivals.

These shoes have been designed following the traditional design patterns of the moccasins-covered with a single piece of leather and with stitching on top. Several reputable brands in the market manufacture and sell boat shoes. Men’s shoes are often a little on the expensive side, but they are well worth their price. Most deck shoes are made of soft leather that is treated with oil to make them water resistant. Some others use a combination of leather and canvas. Other features include hand-stitched seams, laces made of rawhide, and three-pairs of eyelets made of brass. Slip-on deck shoes are also available.

These Men’s shoes are admired for their versatility. These shoes can be worn with almost anything and never look odd. Nonetheless, fashion experts advise that these shoes should be worn without socks, because the shoes are comfortable without socks and also because they look trendy this way. You should keep this in mind when purchasing your own pair of men’s boat shoes and try them without socks.

There are a great variety of men’s boat shoes available both in stores and online. However, shopping online enables you to browse through a larger collection. Before ordering online be sure to check on the merchant’s return policy, just in case they are not suitable.

My new Sperry boat shoes puff are out the top of the shoe. Is this normal?

August 23rd, 2010 2 comments

These are the first Sperrys I’ve ever gotten and with every step they puff air up my ankle. Like really puff air, I could live with feeling it but I, and everyone around me, can hear it.

I’m very flat footed and my feet kinda cock outward, like the opposite of pigeon toed.

Will this stop when they break in? Or should I return these shoes right away?

It does not make the sound if I wear socks, but those just look stupid with Sperrys.

Asker ,
Your Sperry’s must be to big for you! Try returning them for a smaller size.
If they aren’t to big, then try tightening all of the laces around the whole shoe.
If this does not help, then go & buy some of the socks you wear with flats. They are little socks that are cut to where they can’t be seen with Sperrys’. Journeys, shoe carnival, hibbett sports, & other shoe stores sell them.
I hope I helped!

How to Curl Sperry Laces

How to Curl Sperry Top~Sider Laces

1. the easiest way is with the shoe off and sitting on a table in front of you with the heel facing you.

for the purpose of this description start with the left hand side lace.

2.with the index finger and thumb of your right hand hold the lace near the eyelet and the end of the lace in your left hand index finger and thumb you should ideally be working with 6-7 inches of lace per spiral

3. form a small bunny ear (loop) near the eyelet approx 1 1/2 inches in length
hold with right hand index finger and thumb

4 start to wrap the straight section of lace held in your left hand around the bunny ear starting nearest the shoe eyelet. (after 2 or 3 wraps it should be starting to resemble a hangmans noose).

5. as you near the end of the bunny ear you should have a small loop just wide enough to slip the end of the lace into. slide the end in and push the base of your spiral up away from the shoe eyelet to trap the end of the lace.

6. repeat 3 more times.

Duration : 0:3:0

What is the best way to clean my Sperrys?

January 8th, 2010 1 comment

I have a pair of Sperry Top Sider boat shoes that I have been (regrettably) wearing without socks. These ones are leather on the inside and (black) wool on the outside with sort of a patent leather accent on a couple of spots. Is it safe to throw them in the washing machine maybe with like dark towels or something and let them air dry?
I should have worn socks with them because now they smell..horrible and I’m not sure how to clean them without ruining them. Thanks for any advice!

This one is a tough one to answer. Because they are wool and leather. But I will give you an idea that I would try if they were mine. If you can’t clean them I guess they are fairly useless, so try this.

Take out the laces and open them up as wide as you can pulling the tongue up. This is the hard part so wear something that can get wet.

Pin up your shoes at the car wash where the mats go. Spray them inside. Let them drip dry for about an hour at home. Either use the sun to let them dry facing the heel towards the sun, or pull the dryer vent hose inside and aim it at the insides of them. They might shrink because of the leather and woolb that is the hard part. If they do shrink, you might have a shoe repair in your area that can stretch them for a few bucks with those wooden or metal inserts that crank open once inside the shoe.

Maybe someone has an idea like lemon or orange sprays, but I personally haven’t known much of anything that will overpower stinky shoes.

Try wearing some powder next time or the real thin booties that don’t show above the shoe.

I hope you get it worked out! Best wishes!

Do these Sperry Topsiders Boat Shoes have shoelaces?

January 5th, 2010 1 comment

Do these Sperry Topsiders Boat Shoes have shoelaces? i know that they have the shoelaces but in the picture there is no bow on top so i was wondering if the rest of shoelaces are tucked in the shoe or if it has none like loafers.

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/18130336/c/1446.html

its more like a leather lace- yes they can be made somewhat tighter but the most part guys just slip em on like loafers. They are kinda like a skaters shoe its up to you how you lace em- laces out with bow or inside- reversed lace up ; )

How do you tie the laces on sperry boat shoes so that they are not showing on top?

December 19th, 2009 1 comment

Why would you do that to sperrys? The laces belong there and if you don’t want them there you should buy penny loafers.

But to resolve your issue, you would tie them anyway you would tie other shoelaces to have them now show on top. Basically tie it inverted, although I doubt the flab will go all the way as easily as regular sneakers.
