Sebago Docksides

May 10th, 2011 No comments

Sebago Shoes which started life in 1946, are on the crest of a huge wave right now. Boat and Deck Shoes are once again set to dominate the Spring 2011 season for the retro inspired preppy look that started two season’s ago. They have also added to this look with a fabulous range of desert boots and an extension of their Classic Loafers collection.

They are now part of the enormous Wolverine Corporation as we have stated in our recent article about Caterpillar Boots, along with Caterpillar, Hush Puppies and of course Wolverine themselves.

Sebago Boat Shoes

The Company launched the first of their iconic boat shoes in 1970 with the introduction of the now famous and much in demand Dockside. Initially this came in just a couple of colours, dark brown and tan but they quickly realised that people wanted a much wider colour pallet and introduced navy. This lead on to the explosion of colours you see today with an array of special combination’s including nubuck and leather in different colours and for the real fashionistas, patent leather as well!

Docksides continue this trend with a new selection of colours for the coming season, the first to arrive is a Waxy Smoke Nubuck material on the newer white out sole. There is also continuity for all classic colours such as Navy with a white sole and Brown on white as well as a resurgence in the more traditional gum coloured sole. All the soles are ‘siped’ which is a method of making fine horizontal cuts in the sole itself, originally to emulate the paws of the founders dog as he scampered across the wet decks of his yacht!

The range is further exploded by the reintroduction of the best selling Sloop, Spinnaker and Endeavour Deck Shoes in traditional waxy brown leather with gum coloured sole units. Sebago Shoes really are the original and the best and you won’t find a wider selection of deck shoes on the market today from any other footwear brand.

What you get with this footwear is supreme quality by the use of top quality upper, sole and lining materials. The laces used on the boat shoes are one-piece 360 degrees threaded laces which takes some skill to achieve I can tell you, there is a video on You tube which shows exactly how its done and they sell lacing kits in the market, each of which comes with a steel needle to help you push the laces all around the boat shoes!

Lacoste

From footwear, clothing lines, perfumes and accessories such as eyewear and watches, Lacoste has its bases covered. Founded in 1933 by Rene Lacoste, this French apparel company offers nothing short of divine magic. Easily recognized by the classic alligator logos, Lacoste symbolizes superb taste, fine living and all that the good life offers.

This season’s collections include a new line of women’s shoes, including the incredibly popular Niko 2 slide. With glossy patent leather, a low heel, classic colors such as Navy, Black and Ruby Red, its comfort is unmatched by any competitor. Another favorite, the Noka, is adored due to its simplicity in design. A traditional sling back thong sandal, there’s virtually no heel and it doesn’t run short on femininity. It’s no wonder it’s being called the “Comfort Shoe of the Summer”.

The men’s line of clothing includes the newly designed short sleeved ribbed collar shirt in colors such as Chlorophyll, Gooseberry and Chartreuse. It’s all about creativity with Lacoste. This iconic cotton classic is necessary for every wardrobe. As customary with Lacoste, the shirt is made with textured knit cotton and has a two-button collar. Naturally, the cotton oxfords remain an extremely popular choice and this year, gingham was the front-runner in many shoppers’ favorite’s lists. The uber-soft cotton v-neck t-shirt is just as the name implies: super soft, comfortable and available as a v-neck pullover. It’s ideal for any season.

The mens casual fit jean isn’t too much of the new destroyed look, yet it’s a true relaxed fit to declare it the perfect jean for any occasion. Comfortable and affordable, five pockets and boot cut, these are the epitome of mens jeans wear.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the many sneakers that are part of the Lacoste family. A particular favorite is the Lacoste Mississippi Lace-Up Sneakers. They’re perfect with shorts and tees but with just enough flair to look great for a casual night on the town. Still, for those who like the look of canvas on their shoes, the Imatra might be the way to go. They have the classic Izod look and feel and are great shoes to have at the ready.

For the right combination of dressy and casual, consider the preppy look of the Shakespeare. These leather boat shoes have stood the test of time and the Lacoste logo only adds to the look of this all-around perfect shoe.

Lacoste remains a global symbol for all things classy in the fashion industry. Each season only brings it up another notch. If there’s ever been a brand one can’t go wrong with, hands down, it’s Lacoste.

What is the best way to clean my Sperrys?

January 8th, 2010 1 comment

I have a pair of Sperry Top Sider boat shoes that I have been (regrettably) wearing without socks. These ones are leather on the inside and (black) wool on the outside with sort of a patent leather accent on a couple of spots. Is it safe to throw them in the washing machine maybe with like dark towels or something and let them air dry?
I should have worn socks with them because now they smell..horrible and I’m not sure how to clean them without ruining them. Thanks for any advice!

This one is a tough one to answer. Because they are wool and leather. But I will give you an idea that I would try if they were mine. If you can’t clean them I guess they are fairly useless, so try this.

Take out the laces and open them up as wide as you can pulling the tongue up. This is the hard part so wear something that can get wet.

Pin up your shoes at the car wash where the mats go. Spray them inside. Let them drip dry for about an hour at home. Either use the sun to let them dry facing the heel towards the sun, or pull the dryer vent hose inside and aim it at the insides of them. They might shrink because of the leather and woolb that is the hard part. If they do shrink, you might have a shoe repair in your area that can stretch them for a few bucks with those wooden or metal inserts that crank open once inside the shoe.

Maybe someone has an idea like lemon or orange sprays, but I personally haven’t known much of anything that will overpower stinky shoes.

Try wearing some powder next time or the real thin booties that don’t show above the shoe.

I hope you get it worked out! Best wishes!

other than the patent leather ones do they have any other all white and all black sperry top sider boat shoes?
