My Grandfather was sitting in the living room watching the news it came over the news that Point Marion was on flood watch. My Grandparents and I sit around for hours watching the news to see what was next for us. The question was at that point was did we start moving everything from the basement and the second floor to upstairs or just wait. We waited all even to hear something so buy now it was getting late, so we just kept watching for something new from the news channel. I can remember taking a deep breath and the house smelling like fresh coffee. I can also remember my grandfather said to me just go to bed, I don’t think that anything is going to happen like they said. So I went to bed I can remember getting up every hour or so, so afraid that we were going to lose everything we had over a flood, and ask god why us.

I remember it was just getting daylight when my grandparent yelled and said we have to go now, I ran down stair and there was a man in a boat there to get us, But before I would leave our home I went to see in the basement to see how deep the water was, it had about 4 inches more and it would be in the second floor of are home and then I remember that my cat was in the house somewhere and I want to take here with us but the man in the boat was yelling we have to go now the water is come now. So we left with a man that I didn’t know at all. I remember my grandparents pray and saying that it was going to be bad if the river flood, At that point all I could do is think that I was going to lose all my stuff I was 11 year old then.

We went to what they called a safe zone at the top of this big hill that we called schoolhouse hill, and there was a lot of people there. There was no beds or anything there for us, cause know one was think this was going to happen. It was days before we went home and when we did go home there was so much mud all over the street’s and when we got to our house I remember opening the door and the mud was so deep in our living and dinner room and the kitchen. I remember my shoes got struck in the mud in the living room. I remember the smell when we walked in the house it smelled like sewage and mold and dead fish, everything was filled up side down everything was in different rooms. Everything was filled with mud. It took us month’s to clean up the mess that the flood has taken for us. But the lesson I remember the most is my grandparents saying to me was” The flood might of took everything from us, but it didn’t take love from us it just made us so much stronger! Those words are what I remember the most that know matter how hard thing can it “LOVE” will over come everything in life.
